Mr. John McNally, III, Chairman
Dauphin County Republican Committee
2225 Paxton Church Road
Harrisburg, PA 17102

Dear John,

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to speak today.  A long-planned and important family event prevents me from participating.  However, Dauphin County’s Republican Party is also important, and therefore I am sending this letter and a representative to convey my appreciation and my dedication to doing what it takes to ensure that our Party chapter grows and is successful.

The long-dedicated, or more likely the very long-lived members of the DCRC will well recall that my family has been deeply involved in the Republican Party for generations, especially in Dauphin County.  Most of my career has been spent in Washington, DC, or in Harrisburg, working on international, national, and state-related issues, and therefore I had not previously been involved at the county level.  But as all of you know, this past congressional primary race had me making up for lost time!  At our events, we registered over a hundred Republican voters, mostly in Dauphin County.

Because of hard work by a lot of volunteers, including many of the people sitting in this room now, our congressional campaign obtained nearly 50% of the Dauphin County Republican vote (and 50% of the Perry County vote) in last month’s primary.  All who were involved in our campaign are proud of that significant accomplishment, and I am so grateful for all of the help I received from so many committeemen and committeewomen.  Without your help, we would have been barely a blip on the radar screen.  Now, the old-fashioned conservative, hook-and-bullet conservationist Republican is on the political map.  The Lenkers and County Commissioner Jeff Haste in particular provided valuable advice and critical support along the way.

Additionally, John, you did a tremendous job handling the many pressures brought to bear on the DCRC during the pre-endorsement process.  Because the Republican Party is the only political movement in the world that stands for freedom of opportunity and merit, an open primary is important to the Party’s credibility.  All candidates should be given a level playing field, and thanks to you, John, in my congressional race all of the candidates were treated equally.  And David Argall won that race, fair and square.  It is now time for all of us to come together to support Dave Argall in his hard-working bid to return our U.S. Mis-Representative Tim Holden to private life.  It cannot be said enough how important Holden’s 100% record on procedural votes with Nancy Pelosi has been to her success, which is the demise of our great nation.  Holden’s voting record is way out of synch with central Pennsylvania’s character and values.

In closing, I will do all that I can to help unite the Republican Party here and state-wide.  If this congressional seat remains Democrat after November, or if redistricting leads to a different assembly of counties with Dauphin County, then I will consider running for Congress again.  Other opportunities may present themselves, as well, and I welcome all advice from those interested in giving it.  Thank you, and

Warmly yours,

                                                                        Josh First
